The Board of Family Promise Knoxville announces the retirement of its long term Executive Director, Joyce Shoudy.  Joyce joined the staff of Family Promise, a shelter program for homeless children and their families, in August of 2006.  After serving 14 years as the Director of the Children’s Home of Blount County, she was a natural fit for Family Promise utilizing both her skills as a social worker and as a successful director.

Under Joyce’s leadership, Family Promise has flourished. The program now unites over 38 congregations to provide food and shelter for homeless families while the staff of social works assists families to regain independence and sustainable housing.

Joyce describes her favorite part of the job as “watching successes”: the success of families moving into homes; the success of the Knoxville’s volunteer community responding to the needs of our families with donations of furniture and household goods; the success of our volunteer partners who tirelessly give of their time and talents. She will miss all the great people she has met throughout her time at Family Promise.

In her retirement Joyce plans to spend more time with her family: husband Howard, 3 sons and 4 grandchildren. She plans on trying new things like knitting and sleeping in.  Though she leaves as our director she will continue to volunteer for Family Promise on a regular basis.

We thank her for her service with Family Promise and her many contributions to the Knoxville Community. We wish her all the best in retirement.
